Product details

UID 851
Name Ground-Based Observations for Validation of Copernicus Global Land
Acronym GBOV
Description The GBOV service provides multiple years of high quality in-situ measurements to validate 7 core land products (Top-of-canopy reflectances, Surface albedo, fAPAR, LAI, fCover, Land Surface Temperature and Soil Moisture). It provides a collection of multi-year ground-based observations from existing global networks. These ground-based observations (Reference Measurements, RMs) are collected over a series of selected sites organized through international research networks (such as SurfRad, AERONET, FluxNet, NEON, ARM, BSRN, TERN, OZFlux, USRCN, …). The service will upgrade some of the existing sites with new instrumentation or establishing entirely new monitoring sites to close thematic or geographic gaps. The aim is to implement and maintain a database for the distribution of reference measurements (RMs) and the corresponding Land Products (LPs). The focus of GBOV is on providing the information required for in depth quality assessment of the products offered through the global component of the Copernicus Land Monitoring Service (CLMS), i.e. the Copernicus Global Land Service (CGLS). Data availability depends on each station and measurement, but most data are available from 2012 onwards.
