Name |
Reference Land Cover and Land Cover Change in selected Hot Spots |
Acronym |
HSM LC-LCC |
Description |
The High Resolution Hot Spot Monitoring activity provides detailed land information on specific areas of interest (Hot Spots), answering to ad-hoc requests and supporting efforts to mitigate the impacts of these pressures, aiding in the preservation of these critical landscapes for future generations. It concentrates mainly on the domain of the sustainable management of natural resources, with an initial focus on Key Landscapes for Conservation (KLC) areas. The Reference LC product consists of Land Cover based on medium to high and very high resolution images (from approximately 1 to 30 m spatial resolution) acquired for specific areas of interest globally, but with a specific focus on Africa. The classification scheme follows the Land Cover Classification System (LCCS) developed by United Nations FAO. The Reference LCC product tracks changes in these areas over time, providing invaluable data for conservation efforts. It consists of Land Cover Change Detection by using multi-temporal satellite images (from approximately 1 to 30 m spatial resolution) with a change assessment frequency between 1 to 20 years. |
