The Luxembourg Land Use 2018 dataset (https://data.public.lu/en/datasets/inspire-annex-iii-theme-land-use-land-use-2018/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) represents a detailed map of land use in the Grand Duchy as of 2018. This work was carried out within the framework of the INSPIRE guidelines, under the theme Annex III – Land Use, and is produced by Luxembourg public bodies, coordinated by the Ministry of Mobility and Public Works, and made available on the national open data portal.
The dataset covers the entire territory of Luxembourg and describes in detail how land is used: urban areas, infrastructure, forests, agricultural areas, water bodies, and natural spaces. Each land use type is represented with a minimum detail, the Minimum Mapping Unit (MMU), which for built-up areas or roads is approximately 100 m², while for other land categories it can reach up to 500 m². This allows for a highly precise and useful representation for spatial planning, environmental analysis, or monitoring changes over time.
The map was produced using an object-based approach, combining high-resolution aerial imagery from 2018 with information from previous Land Use datasets from 2015 and 2007, vector data on buildings, roads, and waterways, and digital terrain models. This method achieved very high accuracy. |
