Global Wind Atlas (GWA), available online at https://globalwindatlas.info, is a free digital platform that provides a global mapping of wind potential. It is a strategic tool developed by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Wind Energy) in collaboration with the World Bank and the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP), with the aim of promoting the energy transition and supporting the development of renewable energy sources. The portal provides a set of high-resolution data, up to 250 meters, on average wind speed, power density, and capacity factor, calculated at different heights (10, 50, 100, and 200 meters above ground level). This information makes it possible to identify the most promising areas for wind farm installation, reducing uncertainty in the early stages of analysis and project planning. In addition to interactive maps, the Global Wind Atlas allows users to download data in GIS-compatible formats and to compare regions or countries, making it a valuable resource for researchers, energy planners, and policymakers. |
