Data details

Name High Resolution Layers - Water & Wetness
Note The combined Water and Wetness product is a thematic product showing the occurrence of water and wet surfaces over the period from 2009 to 2018, available for the area of the EEA39. These layers are based on multi-temporal and multi-seasonal optical high-resolution satellite imagery. In addition, these layers are also based on radar information (Sentinel-1 data) with a geometric resolution of 10m on a pan-European basis. A multitude of optical and SAR imagery is used, covering a prolonged time series of 7 years, which aim at capturing the intra-annual dynamics as much as possible within a given area and lead to one image composite per season (each season covered by 3 months) and year during the observation period. The products show the occurrence of water and indicate the degree of wetness in a physical sense, assessed independently of the actual vegetation cover and are thus not limited to a specific land cover class and their relative frequencies.

Requirements

Requirement Level of compliace Note Information costs Handling costs Created on Last modified on
Land Cover - Forest Partially Supports training sample selection, plausibility checks and final Quality Control (QC) steps of current Forest Type product. Partially compliance due to resolution of only 20m and of being confined to water bodies and wet areas. April 9, 2018, 3:33 p.m. Dec. 17, 2020, 3:58 p.m.
Land Cover - Water Fully Useful for derivation of Water & Wetness Probability Index (WWPI). April 9, 2018, 3:33 p.m. Dec. 17, 2020, 3:58 p.m.
Land Cover Fully Automated derivation of classification training samples from additional reference data. April 9, 2018, 3:33 p.m. Dec. 17, 2020, 3:58 p.m.
Land Cover - Wetlands Partially The main Water and Wetness (WAW) product has defined classes of (1) permanent water, (2) temporary water, (3) permanent wetness and (4) temporary wetness. There is an additional expert product: Water & Wetness Probability Index (WWPI). The products show the occurrence of water and indicate the degree of wetness in a physical sense, assessed independently of the actual vegetation cover and are thus not limited to a specific land cover class and their relative frequencies. April 9, 2018, 3:33 p.m. Dec. 17, 2020, 3:58 p.m.
Land Cover - Grassland Partially Additionally used for training sample selection, identification and verification as well as for plausibility checks. Thematic focus on water bodies and wet areas only. April 9, 2018, 3:33 p.m. Dec. 17, 2020, 3:58 p.m.
